Piatella: The Pinnacle of Solventless Concentrates

If you've been following the evolution of solventless cannabis, you know the game keeps getting pushed forward. From traditional bubble hash to cold-cured live rosin, every innovation is aimed at one thing: preserving the true essence of the cannabis plant. Now, a new frontier is here - Piatella - and The Flower Collective is proud to bring it to Colorado.

Origins of Piatella

Piatella first gained traction in Barcelona, where solventless artisans began experimenting with long cold cures of fresh-frozen bubble hash. Unlike rosin, which relies on heat and pressure, Piatella skips the press entirely. Instead, carefully washed hash is aged under precise cold conditions. Over time, the hash transforms—developing a creamy, almost "whipped" texture and unlocking layers of flavor that can rival even the most refined live rosin.

This patient, meticulous process takes months, but the reward is unmatched: a solventless concentrate that tastes like the plant in its purest form.

Why Piatella is the Pinnacle

Piatella is not just another step in the solventless story—it's the summit. The craft demands an obsessive devotion to detail that few are willing to commit to, and that's exactly why the end result is so extraordinary.

It begins in the wash. Only the most surgical micron selections are pulled—the narrow ranges where trichome heads shine brightest, loaded with volatile terpenes and clean-melting resin. These fractions represent the purest expression of the plant, and in Piatella, nothing less will do.

But the real secret is the input. To achieve Piatella, the fresh frozen must be world-class-flower grown with resin in mind, harvested at the exact moment of peak ripeness, then frozen instantly to preserve its living profile. Mediocre material won't cut it. Piatella demands elite flower, resinous genetics, and a cultivator's touch that respects hash from seed to harvest.

When those two forces converge— hyper-selective microns and impeccable fresh frozen input—the result is more than just hash. It is the plant, unfiltered, unpressured, unaltered. A jar of Piatella is a jar of truth: every terpene preserved, every nuance intact, every dab a direct line to the living cultivar.

This is solventless not just perfected, but elevated. This is why connoisseurs call Piatella the pinnacle.

Why You Should Try It

For connoisseurs, Piatella represents a new benchmark. If you've enjoyed rosin, you'll notice how much brighter, fresher, and more nuanced Piatella is. For newcomers, it's the perfect introduction to solventless because it captures cannabis as nature intended—without any interference, without compromise.

This is not just about getting high. It's about experiencing cannabis in a way that's closer to the living plant than anything else on the market.

Why The Flower Collective is Bringing Piatella to Colorado

At TFC, we've always believed cannabis deserves respect—both as a plant and as a cultural experience. We pioneered Bubble Joints and Bubble Blunts to make hash accessible, but we also recognize the importance of showing what's possible when solventless extraction is taken to its peak.

We're introducing Piatella because:

We know the plant. From cultivation to curing, we've built our brand on honoring flower.

We know solventless. Hash is in our DNA—from bubble to rosin to now Piatella.

We know our customers. You want authenticity, quality, and proof that Colorado can still set the standard in the global hash conversation.

Piatella is more than a product launch—it's a statement. TFC is here not just to sell cannabis, but to demonstrate that we deeply understand it, from soil to smoke.

Stay tuned for drops of TFC Piatella. Quantities will be limited, but the experience will be unforgettable.

Would Rescheduling Cannabis to Schedule III Be a Step Backward, Not Forward?

As the conversation around cannabis reform heats up in Washington, many are celebrating the possibility of rescheduling cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act. At first glance, this might seem like a win. But for those who truly understand the culture, industry, and history of cannabis — especially in the context of adult-use and small business — rescheduling is not just an inadequate solution. It's a Trojan horse. Here's why:

Rescheduling Isn't Legalization

Moving cannabis to Schedule III doesn't legalize it — it merely reclassifies it as a controlled substance with "accepted medical use" under strict federal oversight. That means:

Cannabis would remain federally illegal for recreational use.

Only FDA-approved cannabis products could be legally manufactured, distributed, and prescribed.

Traditional dispensaries and craft producers would be left in the cold, while pharmaceutical corporations swoop in with patented formulas, insurance billing, and a stranglehold on supply chains.

If Big Pharma wants to play in the medical sandbox, fine. Let them. But the adult-use market — a space built by growers, extractors, retailers, and patients long before legalization — should not be handed over to the same system that brought us the opioid crisis.

The Existing Cannabis Industry Gets Squeezed

Rescheduling does nothing to fix the issues that plague the current state-legal cannabis industry:

	Banking restrictions remain.

	Interstate commerce is still banned.

People are still incarcerated for cannabis offenses.

Legacy operators — the very foundation of this industry — still face federal risk.

Worse, rescheduling could give the DEA and FDA even more control over small operators. Compliance with FDA manufacturing standards (GMP, labeling, formulations) would be prohibitively expensive for craft cultivators, solventless extractors, and other small businesses. This opens the door for corporate consolidation and the erasure of authentic, grassroots cannabis culture.

We Don't Need a New Schedule — We Need Descheduling

The only true path forward is full federal legalization through descheduling, which would:

Remove cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act entirely.

Treat it like alcohol or tobacco, regulated but not criminalized.

Allow for state-level autonomy with interstate commerce.

Protect the recreational market from pharmaceutical takeover.

Prioritize equity, access, and economic justice for legacy and marginalized operators.

Cannabis doesn't belong in the same regulatory framework as Vicodin or anabolic steroids. It needs its own lane — not just for cultural preservation, but for public health, innovation, and freedom of choice.

Conclusion: Don't Get Fooled

Rescheduling is not a victory — it's a redirection. A sleight of hand. A soft repackaging of prohibition that legitimizes cannabis only through the lens of corporate medicine, while continuing to marginalize the very people who built the space.

We don't want cannabis to be a pharmaceutical. We want it to be free — accessible, respected, and grown by those who know it best.

Full legalization is the future. Deschedule it, don't reschedule it.

The Great Extract Deception: How Cannabis Consumers Are Being Bamboozled by Buzzwords

In today's cannabis market, you're bombarded with shiny labels: distillate, isolate, live resin, nano-emulsified, terp-enhanced, and more. For the untrained eye, these terms might scream "premium." But peel back the marketing gloss, and you'll find a very different story—one where over-processed, poor-quality cannabis is dressed up in scientific jargon to cover its mediocrity.

Distillate & Isolate: The Emperor's New Clothes

Distillate and isolate aren't inherently bad. But here's the truth most brands won't tell you: these ultra-refined extracts often come from the worst material in the building—trims, shake, old biomass, or product too poor for flower jars.

By the time the distillate is made, most of the plant's natural nuance—terpenes, minor cannabinoids, and the delicate fingerprint of the cultivar—is gone. What's left is an empty shell of THC, stripped of its entourage, and reintroduced into products like vapes, edibles, and topicals with artificial or lab-created terpenes added back in. It's like taking a fast-food hamburger, spraying it with a "truffle essence," and calling it gourmet.

Isolate is even further removed from the plant. It's a single cannabinoid, often CBD or THC, purified into crystalline form. No aroma. No flavor. No soul.

Why Low-Quality Operators Love It

There's a reason bottom-shelf brands lean on distillate and isolate: it's cheap. You can buy failed crops, extract them down to their bare cannabinoids, and turn trash into something that looks clean on paper. Then slap a fancy label on it and call it innovation.

Add in marketing tricks—scientific-sounding terms, colorful packaging, exaggerated potency claims—and suddenly the consumer thinks they're buying the cutting edge of cannabis. In reality, they're being sold the equivalent of processed cheese with a "farmhouse-aged" sticker.

The Cost to Quality Cannabis

This marketing smoke show hurts the real growers and hash makers—the ones who hunt cultivars, meticulously perfect the cultivation of the genetics, grow with care, and preserve the plant's full spectrum. These craft producers are often pushed to the margins because their product isn't "flashy" enough for consumers raised on potency numbers and buzzwords.

Meanwhile, the average buyer is missing out on what real cannabis can be: a layered, full-bodied experience driven by terpenes, minor cannabinoids, and true cultivar expression. Instead, they're smoking shelf-stable THC goop flavored like fruit and wondering why they don't feel right.

Time to Wise Up

If you're a consumer, here's your call to action: get educated. Look beyond the marketing terms. Ask how your extracts are made. Who grew the material? What kind of inputs were used? Is the product strain-specific, full-spectrum, or just a THC delivery system dressed up with fake terps?

Not all extracts are bad. But when "distillate" is used as a selling point instead of a red flag, it's a sign of just how deep the bamboozling runs.

Support the brands that treat cannabis like a craft, not a commodity. Your high—will thank you.

The Pseudo-Legal THCa Market: A Threat to Legal Cannabis and Public Health

In the wake of the 2018 Farm Bill, a strange new cannabis economy has emerged—one that sidesteps state regulations, avoids taxes, and threatens both the legitimacy of legal cannabis operators and the safety of consumers. At the center of this market is THCa, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that, when heated, converts into THC—the compound responsible for the cannabis high.

But while THCa may seem harmless in its raw form, its current commercial exploitation is anything but.

How the 2018 Farm Bill Created a Legal Loophole

The 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized hemp—defined as cannabis with less than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight. What it didn't anticipate was the emergence of products made from hemp that skirt the psychoactivity restriction by leveraging chemistry and technicalities. THCa fits neatly into this loophole: in its raw form, it doesn't count toward the 0.3% THC limit, even though it easily converts into delta-9 THC when smoked or heated.

This legal gray area allows THCa flower—essentially high-THC cannabis in disguise—to be sold online and shipped nationwide, even into states with strict cannabis laws or bans.

Why Companies Are Exploiting the Loophole

For businesses, the THCa loophole is a goldmine. It allows them to:

	Avoid state licensing and taxes

Circumvent potency caps and testing requirements

	Sell across state lines

	Access customers in prohibition states

All while claiming to operate legally under the federal hemp definition. With little enforcement and massive consumer demand, THCa flower has become a booming underground industry operating in plain sight.

Undermining the Legal Cannabis Industry

State-regulated cannabis operators must comply with strict testing protocols, track-and-trace systems, advertising restrictions, and high taxes. The THCa market, by contrast, has none of those obligations. This creates a completely uneven playing field:

Price advantage: THCa sellers can undercut licensed operators by 30–60% or more.

Market confusion: Consumers don't know the difference between regulated and unregulated products.

Regulatory erosion: States trying to control and tax cannabis are losing both revenue and credibility.

Ultimately, this weakens public trust in the legal system and discourages consumers from supporting safe, regulated access to cannabis.

A Public Health and Safety Concern

Perhaps the most troubling aspect of the THCa market is its lack of oversight. Because these products are sold under the hemp umbrella, they do not have to undergo the same rigorous safety testing as state-regulated cannabis.

That means:

No mandatory tests for pesticides, heavy metals, mold, or residual solvents

No verification of potency or label accuracy

No childproof packaging or dosage guidance

Some THCa companies are even branding themselves as offering "cleaner" cannabis—because they aren't required to disclose test results that might say otherwise. It's a marketing sleight-of-hand that puts consumers at serious risk.

Conclusion: A Call for Real Accountability

The THCa loophole isn't a sign of cannabis freedom—it's a dangerous workaround that harms public health, undermines regulated businesses, and creates confusion in a space that desperately needs clarity. It exploits outdated federal language to sell high-THC products with none of the safeguards that responsible cannabis operators must uphold.

If the U.S. is serious about cannabis reform, then regulation needs to be unified, consistent, and grounded in science—not loopholes. Until then, the THCa market will remain a pseudo-legal threat to the integrity of legal cannabis and the safety of the people consuming it.

Total Active Cannabinoids (T.A.C.): Why they are the friends you should definitely invite to your party.

There is a lot to know about cannabis, and a lot of the knowledge is yet to be discovered due to the research constraints placed on this plant by its illegal nature. Instead of breaking this down in a science-y way we will attempt to explain a term called Total Active Cannabinoids or TAC through a series of puns, thoughtful analogies, and a story about a weird, but somehow amazing party we have all been to at some point.

Alright, picture this: You're at a potluck.

THC and CBD are the guests everyone knows - THC's the one doing keg stands, and CBD's chilling on the couch, handing out life advice. But the real magic? It's those quirky, unexpected friends - THCV, CBN, CBC, CBCA (and others) who show up with the wild dishes and the crazy hairdoos already a bit tipsy that take the whole party to the next level.

And that, my friend, is exactly how Total Active Cannabinoids (TAC) works. It's not just about the loudest or most famous cannabinoids - it's about the entire squad coming together to deliver a better, more balanced experience.

So, what exactly is TAC?

TAC stands for Total Active Cannabinoids, which is just a fancy way of measuring all the cannabinoids in a cannabis product - both the big names like THC and CBD, and the smaller, more mysterious cannabinoids like THCV, CBN, CBC, CBCA (the ones that sound like secret codes but bring all the good vibes).

When you see 25% TAC on a label, that means you've got 250mg of cannabinoids per gram - which is a pretty loaded product. You may notice that most cannabis products don't contain a TAC score, this is mostly because the consumer has been trained to believe that the higher THC, the better the product and most companies just find it simple and easy to try to sell something with high THC. But you're not the typical consumer, and TFC never takes the easy way out. We believe that there is a whole lot more to the cannabis plant than THC and we highlight that with a TAC score on every product we craft. We truly believe that more cannabinoids = more fun. (We're not scientists, but we feel pretty confident about that equation.)

Why does TAC matter?

Let's be real - THC gets all the hype. It's the good looking lead singer of cannabinoids, and it knows it. THC is the one grabbing the mic, taking the selfies, and stealing the show. And hey, we love a diva—but without the rest of the band, the whole experience falls a little flat.

When you focus only on THC, the experience can become one-dimensional—like eating plain toast. Sure, it's fine, but wouldn't you rather elevate that plain toast with some avocado slices, chili crisp, a drizzle of olive oil, and a little sprinkle of salt? Exactly.

This is where TAC shines. It's all about balance—letting THC do its thing while the other cannabinoids bring depth, complexity, and that je ne sais quoi you didn't even know you were missing.

The Entourage Effect: When Teamwork Wins

Here's the cool part: when cannabinoids work together, they make each other better. This is called the entourage effect, and it's like assembling the ultimate party crew. THC might be the loud one, but the minor cannabinoids are the friends who bring the weird snacks, queue up the perfect playlist, and keep the night going.

Without them? You get a basic buzz. With them? You're on a first-class, full-spectrum journey. Try it sometime, we promise you will find strains testing below 20% THC that will get you wayyy more high then a strain testing at 30%.

Go ahead and invite the weird friends to the party. On paper the guest list looks weird and sporadic, in practice, you all will be dancing and singing and partying at an event that was after all scheduled to be a potluck.

Landrace Strains: Their History, Significance, and Contributions to Modern Cannabis

Landrace cannabis strains are the foundation of all modern cannabis varieties, representing the original, naturally adapted genetics that have evolved in specific geographic regions over centuries. These strains have developed unique characteristics due to their adaptation to local climates, soil compositions, and environmental conditions, leading to stable genetic profiles that distinguish them from modern cannabis. Unlike commercially bred cannabis, landrace strains have remained largely unaltered in their natural habitats, making them a crucial part of cannabis history and cultivation. Some of the most well-known landrace strains include Afghani, Hindu Kush, Thai, Durban Poison, Columbian Gold, Acapulco Gold, and Panama Red.

The significance of landrace strains extends beyond their genetic purity. These original strains serve as the genetic backbone for virtually all modern cannabis cultivars. Over time, as cannabis spread across the globe through trade, migration, and cultural exchange, landrace strains were either intentionally bred or unintentionally cross-pollinated, leading to the vast diversity of hybrids seen today. Early cultivators selected plants for specific traits such as potency, yield, flavor, and resistance to pests, gradually shaping cannabis into the forms we now recognize. In some cases, hybridization occurred accidentally, as landrace strains from different regions were grown in proximity, allowing natural crossbreeding.

Modern cannabis breeders have accelerated the hybridization of cannabis over the last 50 years as indoor cultivation has become popular - the demand for higher potencies, exotic flavors, and modern extractions such as rosin have been a catalyst for this acceleration and the relentless blending of genetics has given rise to the wide variety of indica, sativa, and hybrid strains available in todays market, each with tailored cannabinoid and terpene profiles designed for specific effects and uses.

While modern hybrids have led to remarkable advancements in cannabis cultivation and an explosion in the amount of cannabis genetics available, the loss of true landrace strains due to over-hybridization and habitat destruction poses a significant concern. Many landraces have become rare or even extinct as commercial cultivation has prioritized high-yield, high-potency hybrids over maintaining pure genetic lines. However, cannabis breeders and preservationists recognize the importance of protecting and maintaining these original genetics, as they provide a genetic reservoir for future breeding projects, ensuring the sustainability and diversity of the cannabis plant. In an era of increasing commercialization, landrace strains serve as a reminder of the plant's rich history, offering a glimpse into the original cannabis genetics that shaped the diverse strains enjoyed today.

The Shifting Definitions of "Solventless"

The shifting definition of solventless cannabis extraction is creating significant confusion among consumers and budtenders. Traditionally, solventless methods relied solely on mechanical processes (agitation and pressure) to extract cannabinoids and terpenes. However, as the cannabis industry evolves, new technologies and hybrid methods are blurring the lines between solventless and solvent-based extraction. For example, some producers incorporate solvent pre-treatment steps before employing more traditional solventless techniques, complicating what the term truly means. Adding to the confusion, terms like "solvent-free," "full-spectrum," and even "live resin" are often misinterpreted or conflated with solventless, leaving consumers unsure about what they're purchasing.

This lack of clarity is further exacerbated by inconsistent marketing practices. Some brands use vague or misleading labels, emphasizing words like "natural" or "clean" without fully disclosing their extraction processes. Without transparency, consumers may unknowingly purchase products that don't align with traditional solventless principles, undermining trust in the brand and the term itself. Compounding the issue is the disparity in consumer education. Many individuals are new to cannabis concentrates and lack the technical knowledge to differentiate between extraction methods. Dispensaries and budtenders, while often helpful, may not always provide comprehensive explanations, leaving buyers with incomplete or inaccurate information.

Another challenge stems from the industry's lack of standardized definitions for solventless extraction. Regulations and terminology often vary by state, and brands frequently develop their own interpretations, leading to a fragmented and inconsistent marketplace. This makes it difficult for consumers to confidently navigate the landscape, especially when the premium pricing of solventless products raises expectations about quality and purity. If consumers don't fully understand why solventless products command a higher price, they may feel misled or question their value.

The solution lies in a combination of education, transparency, and standardization. Brands and dispensaries should prioritize educating consumers about the nuances of extraction methods, ensuring they understand the differences between solventless and solvent-based processes. Clear labeling and detailed product descriptions are essential to building trust and eliminating misunderstandings. Establishing industry-wide standards and certifications for solventless products would go a long way toward unifying definitions and setting clear expectations - The Flower Collective based in Colorado looks to do just that in 2025 (see their 2025 New Year's Resolution blog post) by pushing regulators to adopt industry standard defnintions as well as cordinate with similar brands to TFC that share a common understanding of what "solventless" extraction actually means and band together to create a certification process for brands that truly produce solventless products to be recognized.

As solventless extraction continues to grow in popularity for its purity, natural appeal, and premium quality, it's crucial for the cannabis industry to address these challenges. By bridging the knowledge gap and fostering greater transparency, the industry can help consumers make informed decisions and fully appreciate the value of solventless cannabis products.

Why Solventless is More

Why Solventless Cannabis Extraction is Superior to Hydrocarbon Extractions

When it comes to cannabis concentrates, the debate between solventless and hydrocarbon extraction methods has been heating up in recent years. While both methods have their place in the industry, many consumers and experts consider solventless extraction to be the gold standard. But what makes solventless extraction superior? Let's explore the reasons why this clean and natural method is gaining widespread popularity.

1. Purity

Solventless Extraction: This method relies on mechanical processes only such as heat, pressure, and water to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis. It doesn't use chemical solvents like butane, propane, or ethanol, ensuring a product free from residual solvents.

Hydrocarbon Extraction: While advanced hydrocarbon extraction methods strive for purity, they inherently introduce the possibility of residual solvent contamination. Even trace amounts of hydrocarbons can raise health concerns, particularly for medical cannabis patients or health-conscious consumers.

Solventless products, by their very nature, offer a cleaner alternative, ensuring that what you're consuming is purely cannabis.

2. Preservation of Terpenes

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds in cannabis that contribute to its flavor, aroma, and effects. These delicate molecules are highly volatile and can be lost or degraded during hydrocarbon extraction due to the harsh chemical and temperature conditions.
Solventless Advantage: In solventless processes, such as rosin pressing or ice-water extraction, the gentle handling of cannabis material preserves terpenes. This results in a concentrate with a richer flavor and a fuller representation of the plant's terpene and cannabinoid profiles.

For consumers seeking a true-to-plant experience, solventless concentrates capture the essence of the original cannabis strain.

3. A Health-Conscious Choice

With the growing popularity of cannabis for wellness and medicinal use, many consumers are prioritizing products that align with a natural, health-conscious lifestyle.

Solventless Extraction eliminates the use of chemicals, aligning with the demand for cleaner, more natural products. For individuals with compromised immune systems or health sensitivities, solventless concentrates provide peace of mind, ensuring that no residual solvents or chemical byproducts will enter their bodies.

4. The Entourage Effect in Full Force

The entourage effect describes the synergy between cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant compounds in cannabis, amplifying the overall effects produced by consuming cannabis.
Solventless methods are particularly effective at preserving a full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes.
Hydrocarbon Extraction, on the other hand, often strips away some terpenes and minor cannabinoids during the process, resulting in a less complete representation of the plant.

Solventless products retain the full chemical complexity of cannabis, delivering a more robust and authentic experience.

5. Sustainability and Environmental Impact

As the cannabis industry grows, sustainability is becoming a key concern. Hydrocarbon extraction often requires significant energy for safety protocols and solvent recovery systems. Additionally, the use of volatile chemicals poses risks to both workers and the environment.
Solventless Extraction, by contrast, is eco-friendly. It typically uses fewer resources, produces less waste, and eliminates the risk of chemical leaks or contamination. For environmentally conscious consumers, solventless methods represent a more responsible choice.

6. Craftsmanship and Quality

Solventless concentrates, such as live rosin or hash, are often crafted in small batches, reflecting artisanal care and attention to detail. Each step, from selecting high-quality flower to applying precise temperature and pressure, contributes to a superior final product.
Hydrocarbon extraction, while efficient for mass production, can lack this artisanal touch. The solventless process produces a boutique product, prized for its quality over quantity.

7. Transparency and Consumer Trust

Consumers today are demanding transparency in their products. Solventless concentrates resonate with this demand because the process is straightforward and easy to understand: cannabis in, concentrate out, with no middlemen (or solvents) involved.
Hydrocarbon methods often require more technical explanations and assurances, which can leave some consumers wary.

Final Thoughts

While hydrocarbon extraction has its place in creating certain products efficiently, solventless extraction shines as the superior choice for those who value purity, flavor, and sustainability. From medical patients to connoisseurs seeking the highest quality, solventless products deliver an unmatched experience that honors the full potential of the cannabis plant.

As the cannabis industry continues to evolve, solventless extraction is setting the gold standard, embodying the values of health, quality, and craftsmanship that modern consumers demand. If you're seeking the pinnacle of cannabis concentrates, look no further than solventless.

Quality is Not What it Seems

Do you ever go into the dispensary to buy products and find yourself asking the bud tender "what are the good products?" just for them to spew a stereotypical answer like "this flower tested at 35% THC"? - Yeah, me too. I can't stand that answer. I am looking for products that were produced with quality ingredients, morals, and love. I want cannabis that not only tastes great, but something I can consume with confidence. Too many cannabis producers focus on THC content as their heaviest variable in the composite equation that equals quality and it's starting to show.

Over the last 5 years of consuming regulated cannabis in Colorado, I have noticed cultivators starting to stray from the "quality" procedures that are required to produce cannabis of actual, great quality. The cure is by far the easiest characteristic to distinguish. Curing of cannabis is essential for converting the sugars and properly eliminating water from the buds. In a rush to sell the product that a cultivator harvests, they will flash dry the buds as quickly as possible which significantly diminishes the quality of the end product. Imagine drinking a 12 year old Scotch that was aged in a 12 year old barrel as opposed to actually remaining in the barrel for 12 years... different, right? The Scotch definitely won't take on the barrel's flavor, and will not contain any nuance when it is bottled and sold. This is the exact same as the cure process for cannabis. If the cannabis does not undergo a proper cure, the nuance of the flower will not come through, and instead the flower is simply a sponge like, tasteless vehicle for the THC. If you ask me, if this is the future of cannabis, why do we even have different strains? If it is all going to be a tasteless vehicle for THC, let's just cultivate the strains that produce the highest THC and not care about the flavor.

If any cannabis cultivators are reading this, I urge you to take a hard look at your process and start to think long term. More and more consumers are becoming aware of what quality cannabis really is and if you alienate them even once, you may lose them forever. The economic value of cannabis is much higher than a tomato, act like it!

Our 2025 New Year's Resolution

We at The Flower Collective would like to wish you and yours a happy new year! We hope that 2025 brings you good fortune.

If you made resolutions, we wish you the best in that endeavor.

This year, TFC's resolution is to separate ourselves from the "imposters" - yes, you read that correctly - there are imposters "among us"... very "sus" indeed, and they are slinging "solventless" products that aren't solventless products.

If you would like to take the TLDR (too long didn't read) approach - please feel free to close this email after reading this quick conclusion: know what you're buying, because many brands are shifting their definitions in order to make more profit off of your good name.

If you want more details - read on - we promise you, it's fascinating and you may find this very informative and helpful in your quest for clean, quality cannabis.

Cannabis brands, extractors, and labs are masquerading as "solventless". You may know who we are talking about, but if you don't, let us fill you in on one of the industries dirty secrets: there are "solventless" brands marketing their "live rosins", vapes, edibles, and other extractions, as solventless - except they aren't truly solventless, they have been adulterated through a winterization process that uses alcohol (a solvent) to remove naturally occurring terpenes and flavonoids that are replaced with commercially produced terpenes that were undoubtedly extracted with solvents themselves.

Why would one use a solventless extraction technique and a subsequent winterization process to remove all of the desirable aromas, terpenes, and flavors that cannabis naturally has to offer? Simple, they didn't want you to taste the flavors of the cannabis plant they used to make your product - because that plant was grown, harvested, and cared for improperly and the resulting color and flavors make it look like and taste like motor oil. They are going to add some peachy or blueberry or maybe even a well known cannabis strains flavor (OG Kush, Granddaddy Purple, etc...) to trick you into believing that the cannabis actually tasted like that to begin with - don't be fooled - cannabis is so much more diverse than this and if cultivated and cared for properly, a solventless extraction of cannabis is unparalleled in quality, taste, and effect.

So why are these companies and products marketed as solventless or solvent-free? Well... there is no regulation on these terms and until there is, buyers beware. In 2025 our resolution is to expose this dirty secret and push for the regulation of an accurate and appropriate solventless definition so consumers and purchasers like yourself can feel confident that their cannabis purchases are legitimate and solvent free at every step.

To the untrained eye, an imposter is hard to spot - so until we have regulations surrounding the definitions of products - ask questions about the extraction process and techniques of the products creation - if you don't get a simple answer, because after all solventless is simple; ice, water, heat and pressure, you now know the reason. Good luck out there and happy new year!
